Marc Prensky’s, Teaching Digital Natives, is a must read for all educators. Prensky presents a blueprint for 21st-century teaching and learning. In his book, he encourages educators to rethink how they teach with his ideas of using “verbs” (skills) and “nouns” (technology). He also encourages educators to change from a pedagogy of lecturing and telling to what he calls “partnering.” In partnering, the teacher becomes coach, guide and questioner. Students become partners and specialize in content finding, analysis, and presentation via multiple media.
Living in the 21st century, I agree that Prensky’s ideas of partnering would be a great move for teachers to make. I found Teaching with Digital Natives was an excellent read and extremely inspiring. As a future educator, I need to know exactly how to engage and motivate digital natives. Prensky provided this information and created a map for me to follow. I highly recommend all educators to read Prensky’s book.
